Campaign Reform Panelists Sought
Thousand Oaks residents interested in revising rules that govern spending in local political campaigns have until Feb. 13 to apply for seats on a new advisory committee charged with tackling the issue.
The City Council approved the committee’s formation Jan. 13 in response to the spiraling cost of political campaigns in the city.
For example, about $400,000 was spent last year by people opposing or seeking the ouster of Councilwoman Elois Zeanah.
The 10-member panel--the Citizens’ Blue Ribbon Campaign Finance Reform Committee--is expected to make recommendations to the council on such issues as campaign spending limits and rules on disclosing contributions.
