Council Members Analyze Results of Citywide Survey

The City Council met Tuesday in a study session to analyze results of a citywide survey of residents, businesses and students on how the city can be improved.

The survey, commissioned by the council last year, will help the city develop a plan to shape the future of the fifth-largest city in California.

The four top issues residents felt needed to be addressed were safety, education, neighborhood appearance and business growth.

More than 85% of residents and businesses agreed that creating jobs for young people is critical to helping the culturally diverse area succeed in the 21st century.

More than one-third of businesses believe that Long Beach is less competitive than other cities in attracting and retaining businesses. The council will establish committees or commissions to explore ways to address concerns raised in the survey.
