During her five-month stint as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives, Dana Hills High School student Ashley Choate met Rep. Sonny Bono, Vice President Al Gore, House Speaker Newt Gingrich and even actor John Travolta.

But Choate, 16, who returned recently, said Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) was her favorite.

“He’s a very nice man; I really respect him,” said Choate, who left for Washington in August and returned last week.

Choate was sponsored by Rep. Ron Packard (R-Oceanside) to work in Congress as one of 66 pages. Pages must be at least 16 and have at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

She attended school at the Library of Congress in the mornings and earned $1,000 a month delivering messages and legislative material to members of Congress during the afternoons.
