Marketing Plan Sought for Marine Base Property

The city will spend up to $130,000 for a marketing and media plan for the Tustin Marine Corps Air Facility property.

The money, approved by a unanimous City Council vote this week, will come from a mix of federal grants and Redevelopment Agency funds, officials said.

“We’re at a point where we need to rework the plan and marketing approach as we get closer to the base’s closure [in 1999],” Assistant City Manager Christine Shingleton said. “The last time we updated the plan was fall 1996, and things have changed dramatically in terms of land use and market conditions.”

The consultant, Interra Strategies Inc. of Newport Beach, will report back to the city in about five months, Shingleton said.

The report is expected to include strategies for the city to market the property to developers and attract quality development, along with a theme and new name reflecting a vision for the site. There also is to be a media guide and Web site.

The city plans to convert the property to a mixed-used development of residential homes, commercial businesses, a school and parks.
