Paintings Sold to Help Fund Dredging
The sale of several paintings of the Upper Newport Bay raised more than $4,400 for the city’s bay dredging project.
Members of the Laguna Beach Plein Air Assn. recently painted several landscapes of the bay and sold them at the Newport Harbor Museum of Art on Jan. 24. Visitors bought 39 of the 128 paintings.
The earnings support the $5.4-million project to remove silt that is harming the bay’s ecosystem and making navigation difficult.
Mayor Thomas C. Edwards praised the effort, spearheaded by the Newport Beach Art Commission.
“This was a fine example of communities working together with our city’s Art Commission to preserve a natural resource for all,” he said.
