Alleged Deadbeat Dad Is Arrested

One of the county’s worst deadbeat dads is due to be booked into Ventura County Jail today after being flown in from Idaho late Thursday, according to the district attorney’s office.

Daniel C. Jacobe Jr., 37, a former Ventura resident, is being held on a no-bail warrant issued in 1989. He is suspected of owing $108,000 in back child-support, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Kevin Farrell.

“He’s one of the top 10 most wanted deadbeat parents in the county,” Farrell said.

An anonymous tip to the district attorney’s office last month led authorities to Jacobe. The source said Jacobe had been living and working in Priest River, Idaho, and had been arrested recently on suspicion of drunk driving.

Ventura County investigators called the Bonner County Sheriff’s Department in Idaho last week and confirmed that Jacobe, an auto mechanic, was in custody. He was immediately arrested on the outstanding Ventura County warrant and then agreed to be extradited to California, Farrell said.

Jacobe also was arrested on old Ventura County warrants of driving under the influence and violating the terms of his probation.

According to Farrell, Jacobe had not paid child support since his divorce from Karen Labrot of Ventura in 1983. They have two children, a boy now 17, and a girl, now 15. Labrot has since remarried.
