House OKs Axed Military Projects
Moving a step closer to reversing for the first time President Clinton’s use of newly expanded veto powers, the House voted overwhelmingly to move ahead with 38 military construction projects axed by the White House. The House voted 347-69--well more than the two-thirds majority required for overrides--to go ahead with the projects despite Clinton’s line-item veto of them last October in order to shave $287 million from a $9.2-billion military construction bill. The Senate is expected to follow suit next week.
