Dead Sea Scrolls Forum Is Planned

Share

The Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church will host a forum on the Dead Sea Scrolls on Feb. 20 and lead discussions on how the documents, discovered in 1947, enhance modern-day interpretations of the Bible.

Richard Sneed of Laguna Beach, a retired chancellor emeritus from the Saddleback Community College District, will head the conference.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are early Jewish scriptural writings from 100 BC to AD 100. They were found in the middle of this century in caves near the Dead Sea.

Sneed is working on a Scrolls project at the British Museum and studied under one of the seven original members of the international team that worked to understand the documents. He has a doctorate in theology from Catholic University of America.

The forum will focus on ancient documentation, and offer suggested readings. It will include a slide presentation.

The gathering begins at 7:30 p.m. in the church, 1259 Victoria St.
