The El Segundo Unified School District Board of Education has appointed Michael Briney to fill a board seat that was vacated last month by a member who moved out of the area.

Briney, 41, a project manager at Raytheon Service Co., was appointed to the board at a special meeting Saturday. He will serve the remaining two years of former board member Margaret Echevarria’s term.

A graduate of El Segundo High School, Briney has been active in several groups, including the Citizens Advisory Committee on School District Facilities. He has four children enrolled in the district’s schools.

Briney said he hopes to play a key role in improving educational standards.

“I am hoping to be able to offer my skills as a team player . . . to raise the bar of educational standards and community involvement,” Briney said.
