No Injured Birds at Club, Agent Says

An agent with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service visited the Big Canyon Country Club on Tuesday but found no evidence of injured birds that had been shot by the club as part of a population control project.

The club received a state permit to kill the birds. But officials with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals expressed concern that some birds were only injured by the gunfire and that the club offered them no medical care.

“I investigated . . . the allegations and found no evidence at this point to charge anyone with violations,” said Lisa Nichols, special agent with the agency’s law enforcement division. “I found no violation of any wildlife laws.”
