Authorities Led on Chase in Ventura

Share

A suspected drunk driver reached speeds of 55 mph and ran several red lights as he led Ventura police and county Sheriff’s Department deputies on a 10-minute chase through downtown Ventura Tuesday night.

The chase began at about 9:15 p.m., when the driver of a 1965 gray Ford pickup truck refused to stop for Ventura police at West Stanley Avenue near California 33.

The driver topped 55 mph as he wove through a network of streets, moving from Ventura Avenue and Main Street to Thompson Boulevard and Foothill Road.

A sheriff’s helicopter unit joined several patrol cars in the pursuit as the driver sped north along Hall Canyon Road. The driver finally surrendered at a dead-end in the 3400 block of Hall Canyon Road.

No one was injured in the pursuit, authorities said. No arrest had been made late Tuesday, and authorities said they did not have the driver’s identity.
