Brea Olinda Rallies for Victory, Share of First in League

Brea Olinda moved into a tie for first in the Orange League with a 2-1 victory over Valencia in a boys’ soccer game Tuesday at Brea Olinda.

The Wildcats (8-5-5, 4-1-3) trailed, 1-0, at halftime, but second-half goals by Daniel Flores and Kristopher Carle moved them ahead. The Wildcats are now tied for first with Anaheim.

Mark Siamengo scored the only goal for Valencia (4-2-2 in league).

In Academy League boys’ soccer:

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Downey Calvary Chapel 2--Matt Lindsay scored the winner off of a rebound with three minutes remaining. Lindsay also had the tying goal in the 60th minute. Calvary Chapel (3-13-1, 2-6) took a 2-1 lead after the first half with goals from Daniel Adams and Jesse Ortiz. Capistrano Valley improved to 10-8, 7-1.

In Olympic League boys’ soccer:

Orange Lutheran 5, Whittier Christian 0--The Lancers (18-1-2, 8-0) clinched the league title outright for the third consecutive year.

In South Coast League boys’ soccer:

No. 8 San Clemente 1, Mission Viejo 0--Beau Schuster scored with three minutes left on a header off a corner kick. Kevin Mehrens made five saves for his ninth shutout. San Clemente is 14-3-5, 6-1-1.

In Empire League boys’ soccer:

Loara 4, Kennedy 0--Tony Cuellar had two goals and an assist for host Loara (3-9-4, 2-4-2).

In Century League girls’ water polo:

No. 8 Villa Park 19, Orange 4--Kristyn Pulver had eight goals as Villa Park (19-5, 4-0) clinched the league title. The Spartans led, 8-1, after one quarter.

No. 9 Canyon 6, El Modena 4 (OT)--Sarah Gilbertson scored four goals for Canyon (17-9, 2-2). Christina Randazzo had 22 saves for El Modena (12-11, 1-3).

In Golden West League girls’ water polo:

Santa Ana Valley 9, Saddleback 8--The score was tied with 1:20 left when Lucy Aguilar scored the winner. Elizabeth Orozco had three goals and Veronica Martinez scored two for Valley (6-15, 1-5).

In Sea View League girls’ water polo:

No. 4 Newport Harbor 9, Corona del Mar 3--Kendra Cox scored four goals in the third quarter as Newport Harbor won the league title. Alden Moore and Sara White each had two goals for the Sailors (18-6, 5-0).

Kerry Barklow had a season-high 13 saves for Corona del Mar (9-16, 2-3).

In nonleague girls’ water polo:

Coronado 11, Foothill 5--Devon McIntire led visiting Coronado with four goals. Daylene Coberly scored a team-high three goals for Foothill (14-11). Coronado (20-5) is No. 1 in San Diego County.

Costa Mesa 7, Edison 6--Costa Mesa (10-13) played strong defense through three quarters, but relaxed at the beginning of the fourth, allowing Edison to rally with four goals and tie the score, 6-6, with less than a minute to go. Annette Grubisich scored a backhand goal with 17 second left to clinch the victory. Edison falls to 14-10.
