Crespi Carmelite High School announced Thursday that David Doyle, who previously served as the top administrator at Notre Dame High School, will be its new principal.

Doyle, 35, who has been working at Crespi this year as an academic counselor, will begin his new duties in June. He will replace Father Frederick Tillotson, who has been principal since 1990.

“I am really pleased to be Crespi’s new principal. I think this a great opportunity,” Doyle said Thursday.

“Crespi is a very good academic school, and I certainly want to continue that tradition and also make sure that our athletic programs stay strong.”

About 500 ninth- to 12th-grade boys attend Crespi, which was established in 1959.

An English and social studies teacher before he became an administrator, Doyle said he will teach college-prep U.S. government classes in addition to his responsibilities as principal.

“I love to teach, and I think it’s important to stay close to the students,” he said.

Doyle, who is originally from South Bend, Ind., attended college in his hometown at the University of Notre Dame. He holds a master’s degree in education from the University of San Francisco, where he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in education.

His hiring as Crespi’s principal represents another round in a recent shuffling of top administrators among West Valley Catholic high schools.

Doyle’s replacement at Notre Dame, Stevie Connelly, who took over in April, was previously dean of students at Louisville High School in Woodland Hills. Former Crespi academic dean Gary Murphy is now the principal at Chaminade College Preparatory in West Hills.
