Committee to Aid in University Start-Up
The City Council has agreed to form a special advisory committee to assist in the development of a four-year public university at the former Camarillo State Hospital campus.
The council unanimously voted Wednesday night to establish a 15-member committee that would consult with Cal State officials about their curriculum, educational and health-care partnerships, and cultural and athletic activities.
Mayor Charlotte Craven and Councilman Mike Morgan were selected to head the ad hoc group and will present a list of goals to the council this month.
By next year, Cal State officials plan to convert the former mental hospital site into a university campus. Officials are also considering the construction of a senior citizen community, high-tech business park and housing for students, staff and faculty members.
Applications for the committee may be obtained at City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive. They must be submitted by 5 p.m., Feb. 27. Appointments will be made at the council’s March 11th meeting.
