Protest Ends With 30 Hurt, 20 Detained

A five-hour siege of government buildings in troubled Guerrero state ended in violence when riot police used tear gas and dogs to dislodge protesters. About 30 people were injured and 20 were detained when 300 officers broke up a demonstration by 500 angry students outside the government palace in the state capital, Chilpancingo. The protesters were demanding the release of student Macario Cruz Ventura, who was jailed in November on charges of sedition and rioting.
