El Segundo-based Computer Sciences Corp. said it will respond by the end of next week to Computer Associates International Inc.’s $9-billion acquisition bid. Earlier this week, CSC played down the seriousness of the companies’ talks.

* Trans World Airlines Inc. reported a narrower-than-expected fourth-quarter loss as its airplanes flew on lower fuel costs and carried more passengers at higher fares. TWA’s loss before charges narrowed to $21.1 million, or 44 cents a share, from $170.3 million, or about $3.61, in the year-earlier period. St. Louis-based TWA was expected to lose 52 cents a share.

* Louisville, Ky.-based Tricon Global Restaurants Inc.’s fiscal fourth-quarter earnings rose on better profit margins at fast-food restaurants, after its October spinoff from PepsiCo Inc. Earnings before charges and a gain were $45 million, or 30 cents a share, compared with a loss before charges of $14 million, or 7 cents, a year ago.

* Golden, Colo.-based Adolph Coors Co. said fourth-quarter earnings fell to $5.76 million, or 15 cents a diluted share, from $8.8 million, or 23 cents, before a charge in the year-earlier period.
