Fire caused $100,000 in damage to a church in South Los Angeles late Thursday, prompting an investigation by the House of Worship Arson Task Force, authorities said.

“The task force is routinely assigned to investigate the cause of all church fires, and the assignment should not be interpreted as an indication that the fire is an arson fire,” Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said Friday.

No one was injured in the fire at Templo Espiritual Sacrosanto in the 5100 block of South Hooper Avenue.

A passerby reported the blaze at the small church and 20 firefighters extinguished it in 10 minutes, Humphrey said.

He said task force investigators were on the scene Friday, but had not determined a cause.

Some material from the scene has been sent to a laboratory for analysis, but the results may not be available for several days, Humphrey said.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $70,000. Damaged contents were valued at $30,000.
