Council Weighs Raise for Interim Manager

Share

Recently tapped as Thousand Oaks’ interim city manager, MaryJane V. Lazz could soon get a 5% raise.

On Tuesday, City Council members will consider paying Lazz $10,188 a month instead of her current $9,703, and giving her a $400-a-month car allowance.

Lazz was hired last week by a unanimous vote to temporarily fill the shoes of City Manager Grant Brimhall, who retired today after 20 years of service in Thousand Oaks.

The duration of Lazz’s contract is not specified. Her council bosses hope to pick an executive search firm next month, but it is hard to predict when they will hire a permanent replacement for Brimhall.

Council members disagree about whether the new city manager should be hired before or after the November election--when three council seats will be up for grabs.

In the contract, it states that Lazz will serve at the pleasure of the council. If the contract were terminated, Lazz would be entitled to four months’ pay or her previous job.
