Coach Remembers Bronsozian’s Grace

Share

Recently Holy Martyrs and Ferrahian High School held a candlelight vigil for Shant Bronsozian, a varsity boys’ basketball player who was killed in a single-car accident Jan. 30.

Shant was a second-year starter on our team and, more importantly, a great teammate and friend. The facts of his death are an indication of the type of person Shant was. He was driving to basketball practice at 6 a.m. Witnesses reported that he was driving under the speed limit and just lost control of his car on a rain-slicked road.

As a classmate, friends remarked about Shant’s positive outlook and ability to make them laugh. As a teammate, Shant was the consummate athlete. He had a quiet and unpretentious demeanor on the court, a quality sorely lacking in some student-athletes today. Shant celebrated each of his baskets with a shy smile.

Shant’s short-lived career as a basketball player would have made a great story. Our world needs more student-athletes like him.
