A Room of Her Own

Re Greg Grigg’s Ventura Life column, “A King’s Ransom For A Room Of My Own,” Feb. 8

A haven. How sweet the word. I too would give anything for a room of my own.

A place where I could put all my Beatles stuff, instead of having it spread out all over the house. A room with a walk-in closet where I could put all my clothes instead of having them spread out all over everyone else’s closets. A place that I could decorate by myself, for myself.

Never mind the big-screen TV and easy chair. How about rattan furniture with overstuffedcushions, shelves of romance novels, scented candles, no TV and no phone?

Let me explain. There are now five people living in my house: my husband and myself. In my small four-bedroom house---where we have lived for 10 years. It has not been redecorated since we moved in, when the girls were 3 years and 6 months. When I worked part-time instead of full-time. When the furnishings reflected having young children--no glass top tables or white wicker.

The place has not kept up with us. We have child-proof furniture. We have one bathtube, in the hall bathroom. the master (why not mistress?) bathroom only has a shower. Not conducive to long, hot soaks. Besides, with 14-year-old and 11-year-old daughters, no one could get close to that tub anyway.

Yes, a haven. For me. Is there a way to get a bathtub into a room with no plumbing?
