Realtors to Sponsor Forum on Seismic Gas Shut-Off Valves
The Southland Regional Assn. of Realtors will sponsor a free public forum on Los Angeles’ new seismic gas shut-off valve ordinance at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the organization’s auditorium, 7232 Balboa Blvd., Van Nuys.
Seating is limited, and reservations are required. Call (818) 786-2110, Ext. 550, to leave your name and phone number.
The ordinance, which took effect Feb. 5, requires that all buildings, including single-family homes, that contain gas piping be equipped with a quake shut-off valve within one year of the close of sale-purchase escrow. The law also includes any remodel for which the cost is $10,000 or more.
The valve must be installed by a plumber or contractor installer or the Southern California Gas Co. A certificate of compliance must be filed with the city Building and Safety Department.
