The U.S. Department of Commerce has recommended imposing punitive duties on Taiwanese companies charged with dumping memory chips in the United States. Some of the companies would face tariffs of 100% or more on their shipments of static random-access memory chips, or SRAMS. Among the targeted companies are Taiwan’s two biggest chip makers, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and United Micro Electronics Corp. The case now goes before the U.S. International Trade Commission, which is expected to rule by March 30.
