Police Investigate Shooting of Boy, 13

A 13-year-old Oxnard youth who was shot in the head Monday evening clung to life as detectives opened a wide-ranging investigation into the assault, police said.

The boy, whom police would not identify, was shot in the head about 5:30 p.m. on Campbell Way in south Oxnard. The youth, who was found bleeding in the back of a car, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center. Police blocked the alley immediately after the shooting and interviewed witnesses and neighbors.

Authorities on Tuesday declined to reveal any details of the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation. Although the shooting comes on the heels of a spate of violence attributed to a feud between warring Ventura and Oxnard gangs, the Monday night attack is believed to be a separate incident, police said.
