General Mills to Say Who Gets Their Wheaties

Share

General Mills will announce on Saturday which Winter Games stars will join the ranks of athletes who have had their pictures displayed on Wheaties cereal boxes. Bob Richards, Olympic pole vault champion in 1952 and 1956, and 1994 gold-medal gymnast Mary Lou Retton parlayed cereal-box stardom into longtime marketing roles with General Mills. The company first incorporated Olympic athletes into its advertising during the 1930s, with swimmer Johnny Weismuller and golfer Babe Didrikson. The new Olympic boxes land on grocery store shelves by March 2.
