Electrical Fire at Pet Store Causes $70,000 in Damage
An electrical fire at El Ranchito Pet Shop early Thursday killed 24 birds, a dog and a rat, fire officials said.
Firefighters received a call at 5 a.m. that smoke was coming from the building, located in a mini-mall in the 3000 block of Tweedy Boulevard, county Fire Department spokesman Ed Loney said.
Nineteen firefighters extinguished the blaze at 5:17 a.m., rescuing snakes, lizards, rabbits, rats, a dog and “one very unhappy iguana,” Loney said.
Fire officials estimated damage at $70,000.
