Miami Mayor’s Kin Questioned in Court
Lawyers seeking to overturn Miami’s mayoral election results hammered at candidates’ relatives in court, asking one if she had helped perpetrate “the biggest vote scam fraud” in the city’s history. Two candidates’ relatives testified that they had helped voters complete and return absentee ballots but said they did not throw out, tamper with or attempt to influence ballots. Mayor Xavier Suarez’s sister-in-law, Georgina Cortez Suarez, said she was a campaign volunteer who signed as a witness on 10 ballots and helped voters who did not understand punch-card ballot instructions.
