Reserve forward Marc McDowell scored on a layup with two seconds to play Thursday night to give Pepperdine a 65-64 victory over first-place Gonzaga in a West Coast Conference game at the Martin Centre in Spokane, Wash.

The Waves, 16-9 overall and 8-5 in the WCC, finished the game with only six players after starters Gerald Brown and Kelvin Gibbs fouled out. McDowell, a 6-foot-7 junior, replaced Gibbs with 20 seconds to play after Gibbs picked up his fifth foul.

Bakari Hendrix made two free throws to give Gonzaga (20-8, 9-4) a 64-63 lead, its first advantage since the opening minutes.

Pepperdine called a timeout before McDowell scored his game-winning basket on a pass from Bryan Hill. Matt Santangelo missed a desperation shot at the buzzer for the Bulldogs.
