* Executives of major tobacco companies said they would post millions of internal documents on the Internet, as they promised during congressional testimony last month. A statement from Philip Morris Inc., R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. and Lorillard Tobacco Co. said they would post the documents on Friday. The statement did not specify which documents would be posted but said the Friday document installment would “include the vast majority of those selected by” Minnesota Atty. Gen. Hubert Humphrey III for use in a $1.77-billion lawsuit against the industry. The state and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota are suing the tobacco companies to recover money spent treating those with smoking-related illnesses.

* MCI Communications Corp., Sprint Corp. and America Online said they have been subpoenaed in the Justice Department’s probe of Microsoft Corp., although none is a target of investigation. The agency is said to be interested in agreements and correspondence that might reveal Microsoft’s operating methods.
