SHE’S HAD SOME EXPERIENCE BREAKING THE SPEED LIMIT

So who’s the funniest female Austrian Alpine skier?

Alexandra Meissnitzer, hands down.

Meissnitzer is studying to be a police officer back home. After winning her second Olympic medal Friday in the women’s giant slalom, Meissnitzer issued a warning to her homeland.

“I’m going to try to finish my courses next summer,” she said. “And then I will be on the road and give you a ticket.”

With that personality, it’s no wonder her best friend on the World Cup circuit is American Picabo Street.

IF THERE’S EVER A GOOD TIME TO HAVE A BAD WEEK, THIS WASN’T IT

Kristina Koznick knows she’ll only be remembered in the United States for bombing out in the slalom, in which she was one of the pre-race favorites.

Koznick was the No. 2-ranked slalom skier in the world entering the event and had finished all four World Cup slaloms she had competed in this season.

“It was a bad choice of races not to finish in,” Koznick admitted.

Koznick skied a slow, tentative first run before straddling a gate on the second and skiing out.

The 22-year-old from Burnsville, Minn., still has a chance to win the World Cup slalom championship, a title that is considered more important an achievement outside the U.S.

“That’s just one race,” Koznick said of the Olympics.

Still, she knows what she’s going to hear when she gets home.

“‘What happened at the Olympics?”’ Koznick said. “That’s tough, but as long as I understand, that’s fine by me.”
