Charter Reform
On Feb. 9, I attended a community meeting chaired by the Los Angeles appointed Charter Commission. I understood [it] was to be a report on the progress of the charter revision by the appointed commission and an opportunity for the community to speak or debate. Instead it was a farce.
As a taxpayer interested in the future of Los Angeles, I thought the commission was among the most arrogant, indifferent groups I have observed. I can only concluded that the stories they release about their interest in community and individual participation are all smoke. They are minions of city bureaucracy, paid with millions of our tax money to orchestrate a play for the public, but in the end they will not heed the will of the people.
If the appointed commission continues in this manner, the city will take a step backward. I implore all Los Angeles taxpayers to join the elected committee and submit ideas. It is the only way your voice will be heard.
