Emergency Response Training Offered

The Simi Valley Police Department is accepting applications for its next Community Emergency Response Team training course.

The course, which is limited to 25 students, is available to residents 18 years or older, and will include training in disaster awareness and preparedness, team management, disaster psychology, fire suppression, medical operations and search and rescue.

All training will be provided by Ventura County firefighters.

The program, which began after the Northridge earthquake, is intended to give Simi Valley residents the knowledge to become self-sufficient during a disaster.

The six-session course will begin at 7 p.m. March 18, and will continue every Wednesday until April 15, with the final class to be held Saturday, April 25.

The first five three-hour classes will be held at the Simi Valley Police Department, 3200 Cochran St. The final Saturday class will be held at the Ventura County Regional Fire Training Center off Los Posas Road in Camarillo.
