Comedians to Perform in Homeless Benefit

Share

Comedians will take the stage for more than laughs Wednesday as the L.A. Housing Corp. and L.A. Cabaret hold a benefit for homeless families.

The event, titled “A Career Benefit Performance,” is being planned by ACTUAL SIZE!, a troupe of comedy sketch artists who perform regularly at the Encino nightspot. Other performers include the comedy group Lester McFwap and comedic songwriter Henry Phillips, organizers said.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the L.A. Housing Corp. to assist the agency in providing emergency shelter, transitional housing, child care, employment assistance and other services to homeless families.

Founded in 1983, the nonprofit organization operates 19 service sites throughout the Valley and East and South-Central Los Angeles.

Admission to the event is $5 and/or two cans of food. The food will be served in the Housing Corp.’s kitchen or distributed to families as part of emergency packages, said Tracy Wallace, a spokeswoman for the agency.

“After the holidays, our stock diminishes so an event like this is really needed,” Wallace said.

Wednesday’s benefit will begin at 8 p.m. at L.A. Cabaret, 17271 Ventura Blvd.
