22-Home Project to Help Needy Families

Share

The Ventura County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity plans to build 22 new homes on Main Street in Piru over the next five years, officials said.

Two families are expected to move into their new homes before December, said Gerry Olson, vice president of the Ventura affiliate. Five families will be chosen in the coming months for the first phase of the 22-home project, he said.

The first new home will be built by students from Buena, Fillmore and Ventura high schools, and women from around the county are scheduled to build the second home, according to Olson.

The 22 single-family homes will be erected on a 4 1/2-acre patch of land donated by the county to Habitat for Humanity. Informational meetings will be held at 7 p.m. March 4, and at 9 a.m. March 7, at the Piru Community Center, 808 N. Orchard St. The meetings are open to the public.
