Homeowners Group Expands Boundaries

Share

Central Thousand Oaks homeowners concerned about traffic, street maintenance, crime and zoning changes in their community can find power in numbers by joining a 30-year-old residents group that recently claimed new boundaries and a new name.

Formerly known as the Greater Shadow Oaks Homeowners Assn., the newly dubbed Central Thousand Oaks Homeowners Assn. has expanded its territory to include residential areas north of the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden and south of Conejo Creek, between Lynn and Moorpark roads.

Association President Don Volz said his group mailed 1,200 letters inviting single-family homeowners to become part of the 125-member organization. The group in years past has opposed high-density housing projects, secured discounted trash pick-up rates, encouraged people to maintain their homes and yards, and generally monitored municipal ordinances and policies that affect its members’ neighborhoods.

“We keep an eye on our city government,” said Volz, a retired airline pilot who has lived in the Conejo Valley since 1966.

The association’s old boundaries were ragged and confusing because they followed lines separating county and city lands, Volz said, but all that area is now within Thousand Oaks city limits. And the group’s new name better reflects its representation of many housing tracts, not just Shadow Oaks, he said.

The annual membership fee is $5. Interested homeowners can call 497-3607 for information.
