Sims: Instability Is Trouble With Trojans

Share

The 16 starting lineups used by USC Coach Henry Bibby and the constant shuttling of players in and out of games finally took its toll on senior guard Ken Sims.

Sims, dismissed from the team by Bibby after the Oregon State game two weeks ago for complaining about his lack of playing time, said the Trojans have been burdened by fear.

“There is no way you can get comfortable or play all out if you are afraid to make a mistake,” Sims said. “All of the guys play conservatively because they are afraid if they messed something up or missed a shot, [Bibby] would pull them out.”

Sims started four games and averaged 11.3 minutes and 2.6 points.

“This is big-time basketball,” Bibby said in response to Sims’ statement. “You’ve got to make your shots and you’ve got to perform. If guys aren’t playing well, if we’re down by 15, I’ve got to give somebody else a chance.”
