Art Show at Old Jail Explores Security, Fear
The empty cells of the abandoned jail have been transformed into a showcase for community artists exploring ideas of security and fear in their work.
About 100 pieces were installed in the cells, shower stalls and holding tanks of the old city jail as part of the Arroyo Arts Collective’s second “Without Alarm: Public and Private Security” exhibit, which opened Friday.
The multimedia show, organized by the Northeast Los Angeles arts organization, asks visitors to think about fear and freedom in modern life. Located on the second floor of the jail at 401 N. Avenue 19, the show is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday through March 8.
