Pepperdine Women Hot at Line

Keeping turnovers to a minimum, rebounding well and making a high percentage of free throws have been keys to a successful season for the Pepperdine women’s basketball team.

At the line, Dana Sulenski set the pace for the Waves by making 41 of 43 free throws in West Coast Conference play to establish a WCC record for percentage (95.3%).

Pepperdine made a WCC-best 76.2% of its free throws in conference play on the way to a second-place finish behind Santa Clara.

By comparison, the Pepperdine men made 67.6% of their free throws in conference play.

Marauders honored: Sophomore guard John Burrell and Coach Newton Chelette of Antelope Valley College have been selected player and coach of the year of the Foothill Conference North Division.

Burrell, who has signed with Nevada-Reno, is averaging 21.4 points a game, fourth among conference scoring leaders.

Chelette, in his ninth season, led the Marauders (21-9) to a division title and a berth in the Southern California Regionals.
