Times’ Editor Parks Named Corporate VP

Michael Parks, editor and senior vice president of the Los Angeles Times, and Marty Petty, publisher and chief executive officer of the Hartford Courant, have been appointed vice presidents of Times Mirror Co., in addition to their current responsibilities. The appointments were announced by Mark Willes, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Times Mirror, and publisher of The Times. Parks, 54, was named editor of The Times in October 1997. He had been managing editor since 1996 after serving as deputy foreign editor and after 15 years as a foreign correspondent. He won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting for his coverage of South Africa. Petty, 45, was named publisher and CEO of the Courant in September 1997. She had previously served as senior vice president and general manager since 1994. She joined the Courant as managing editor in 1983.
