Fire Chief Kenneth Lavoie Announces Retirement
After less than two years as Arcadia fire chief, Kenneth Lavoie has announced that he will retire in May.
Lavoie, 57, retires after 33 years as a firefighter for cities including Claremont and Covina, where he was chief.
“His experience and knowledge will be missed, but we wish him well in his retirement,” said City Manager William Kelly.
During the last year of Lavoie’s tenure, the City Council reduced the Fire Department budget and eliminated six positions.
The layoffs came after voters refused to endorse an assessment to support fire services. Arcadia is examining whether to allow Los Angeles County to provide its fire services. A report is due back before the Council in April.
