Expansion of Business Improvement Area Sought
A drive is underway to expand Hollywood’s business improvement district, which has hired security and maintenance crews to spruce up portions of Hollywood Boulevard.
The proposed expansion would extend the district, which runs from La Brea Avenue to McCadden Place, east to Gower Street, adding 12 blocks. The expansion area includes 225 property owners, who would be assessed $1.6 million annually for three years to pay for private security patrols, sidewalk maintenance and marketing.
The assessments are levied according to a formula that takes into account street frontage and lot and building size. The addition must be approved by property owners representing at least half the new assessment.
