Share

A helicopter crash in a remote area south of Palmdale and the California Aqueduct left one man dead Thursday and left authorities searching for the cause.

Two motorists who saw the privately-owned chopper fall from the sky at 1:20 p.m. near Mount Emma Road and 72nd Street East notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in Lancaster on cellular phones.

County firefighters found the wreckage and a body at the bottom of a ravine.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a two-seat Robinson-22 helicopter. She declined to name the owner of the aircraft and said the cause of the accident was not known.
