Shirley Rogers; Longtime Redondo Schools Employee

Shirley Rogers, 70, a fixture in the Redondo Beach Unified School District for 47 years. Most recently assistant superintendent of the district, she began her career there in 1950 as an elementary teacher. Rogers rose from teacher to principal and in 1979 joined the district administrative staff as director of pupil personnel. Also active in her community, she served as president of the Palos Verdes Redondo Soroptimist Club in 1973 and was active in the professional educational association Educare. The district honored her last year by naming its Student Services Center for her. Rogers was born in San Bernardino and earned her degrees at UCLA and Cal State Long Beach.
