An elderly man was rescued from his burning North Hollywood home Wednesday by a pool cleaner who noticed the fire from a neighboring backyard, authorities said.

Pool cleaner Scott Rowan, 31, of Burbank, leaped a fence to get to the burning house in the 13000 block of Hartsook Street and rescue 92-year-old Flournoy Canter.

The fire began about 11:15 a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

Canter was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation and released, Wells said.

A 12-year-old girl also in the house when the fire broke was not injured.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Authorities estimated the damage to the house and its contents at $45,000.
