Volunteers Needed to Judge Art and Essays
The Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Assn. needs volunteers to help read a record number of entries in the organization’s annual art and essay contest.
Nearly 2,000 children submitted artwork and essays in this year’s competition, said Goldie Buchanan, contest coordinator.
Readers are asked to spend two hours reviewing the writings of children on the theme--”Education: What Is Its Goal?”
Readings are scheduled for Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers should be able to evaluate entries for grammar and content, Buchanan said.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony scheduled for Jan. 24 at the Department of Water and Power Building on Hope Street downtown. For more information, contact Buchanan or Mary Lollar at (213) 290-4119.
