Improvements to city streets, a new storm drain and widening Cannon Street are top projects for 1998.

Replacing pavement and curbs and improving 12 neighborhood streets, including widening Lemon Street south of Santiago Boulevard, will begin in March. The cost is about $235,000. Streets getting a face-lift are Alice Lane, Brynmar Drive, Crestview Circle, Dorchester Circle, Eastwood Circle, Featherhill Drive, Hazel Circle, Lemon Street, Nichols Avenue, Serrano Avenue, Villa Woods Circle and Villa Woods Drive.

In April, work on a storm drain on Canyon Circle will begin. That project will cost $125,000. By September, the city plans to start widening the west side of Cannon Street from Serrano Avenue to Loma Street. The $600,000 project will be paid for by county transportation grant money.

On a different note, Mayor Rich Freschi said residents are not using a new city hotline and urged them to do so. “This is an opportunity for [residents] to raise heck with their elected representatives . . . to criticize or compliment.

The hotline number is (714) 998-0250.
