Players Looking at Positives in Loss

Share

After Saturday’s 84-81 loss to Arizona State, the Trojans were trying to focus on what they did well.

USC outrebounded Arizona State, 39-38, and players were happy to have senior forward Anthony White lead the team with nine rebounds in only his second game back after sitting out the first nine because of a broken foot.

“I’m just trying to help out down in the post,” White said. “Our quickness allows us to move by some teams with better size.”

Reserve guard Ken Sims, who had not contributed much in recent games, was productive in 13 minutes of play. Sims scored 10 points on four-of-six shooting, including two of three three-point shots.

Update--USC sophomore forward Jarvis Turner, recovering from a broken hand, suited up for the shootaround but did not play against Arizona State. Turner, a vital component in the Trojan front line, is not expected to play against Arizona. Shooting guard Elias Ayuso does not look fully recovered from the ankle sprain he suffered against Kansas. Averaging 11.7 points before Saturday, Ayuso did not start, scored only two points in 16 minutes and missed all three of his three-point shots. Arizona, which defeated UCLA Saturday night, poses a serious test for the Trojans. Last season, the teams split their two-game series, with the Trojans upsetting the then-No. 6 Wildcats at the Sports Arena. USC has not defeated Arizona in Tucson since 1985.
