Rodrigo de la Fuente, Washington State’s leading scorer, will pass up the remainder of his senior season to return to his native Spain to play professional basketball.

Washington State Coach Kevin Eastman made the announcement Sunday. The Cougars open their Pacific 10 Conference season tonight at Washington.

De La Fuente averaged 16.1 points and 34.7 minutes this season for the Cougars, who are 7-4. Eastman said the 6-foot-6 guard, a native of Madrid, accepted a guaranteed three-year contract to play for FC Barcelona.
