IRVINE — Fluor Corp.’s Fluor Daniel unit received a contract valued at about $14 million from Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. to design and build a medical isotopes processing facility near Toronto.
Fluor Daniel said Monday that the project’s total installed cost is about $98 million.
The new processing facility, a key part of a new Maple reactor complex being built by Atomic Energy at its Chalk River Laboratories, will house shielded structures known as hot cells, which are used for the separation of the isotopes.
Fluor Daniel Canada will be the prime contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion in October 1999 with operations starting in May 2000.
Atomic Energy supplies nuclear energy systems and technology.
