College’s Piano Sale Is on a Grand Scale

Although there will be no fast-talking, dollar-figure-spouting auctioneers yelling things like, “Sold, to the man in the front row!” at the Valley College piano sale Sunday, the merchandise is said to be first-rate and the prices near rock bottom.

The school hosts the event every year to raise money for its music program. This year the public can purchase baby grands, spinets, consoles, studios and digital keyboards from noon to 5 p.m. at the school, 5800 Fulton Ave. in Van Nuys, according to George Attarian, chairman of the music department.

Private appointments may be made Friday and Saturday to preview the merchandise before the crowds arrive. Anyone interested should call the school’s music department.

Valley College is able to sell pianos from top-of-the-line companies such as Steinway, Baldwin, Yamaha and Kimball at discounted prices because each year, new pianos are donated to the school by the Kawai America Corp.’s institutional loan program, according to Attarian.

Some of the instruments are supplied by the Piano Factory Group.

To make room for the new instruments, the school sells the used ones, which have been played for just one year. All the instruments have been professionally serviced and maintained and carry a 10-year warranty.
