Vietnam Extradites Fugitive in Killing
Vietnam has extradited one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives to the U.S. to face trial for the murder of a Rochester restaurateur, the FBI said. Nguyen Thanh Thang, 29, was charged with the 1992 shooting death of Chung Lam, but he fled the U.S. and was on the run until his arrest in Vietnam Dec. 22. Thang was flown to Rochester and will appear in state Supreme Court, where a sealed indictment charging him with murder will be opened, federal officials said. After tracking Thang down, the FBI made an official request to Vietnam through Interpol last August for his arrest and extradition. He was caught by Vietnamese police and turned over to U.S. law enforcement personnel in Bangkok.
